Responding to a "Code 3"...

A "Code 3" according my sources (Uncle Brad) is a code situation that involves lights and sirens on emergency vehicles. We had a Code 3 situation in Draper today due to a brush fire near our house. Actually, it was right up the mountain from where Brad and Jenn live for those who know them. Jackson pointed the smoke out to me when we were driving home from our errands. 5 minutes later, it had turned into a serious fire! So, of course, Brad and Justin raced home from work to be a part of the action. Not only did we observe the action from Brad's house, but he proceeded to take us to the main headquarters for all emergency personnel! When I asked him if it was okay that we were there (surrounded by police cars, news people, helicopters) he said, "they'll ask us to leave if they don't want us here." Well, eventually, that's exactly what happened; but not before Brad and Justin could get in a round of questioning! Needless to say, we had an exciting afternoon taking our kids on a "Code 3" situation!

The helicopter in the background had just landed--it eventually left while we were there to go and dump water on the fire.

Right in the heart of the action--Headquarters for the emergency personnel! Cade, Brad and Jackson

I think Justin and Uncle Brad missed their calling in life--they get way to excited to be involved in situtations like this. On a more serious note, this fire situation was a great opportunity to talk to Jackson about people in the community that help us and keep us safe. He prayed for the firemen and helicopters trying to put out the fire. We really are lucky to live in communities where there are systems in place to keep us all safe from unpredictable circumstances.

What a cool experience Jill to go down there! But a little scary having it so close to home!

Sounds like an exciting day! We live near a fire station and are hearing the sirens multiple times every day. No matter how many times he's heard them go by - Lane always pipes up: "What dat sound Mom?" It's hilarious.

That is such a Mauss thing! I love that you were right in on all the action. I'm glad it didn't get too close to anyone's house.

Glad the fire stayed away from the houses and that you guys were able to get some family entertainment out of it! Zach would be doing the same thing. He lives for things like that.

Not sure who looks like they're having more fun... Justin or Bowen & Jackson. : ) Love it!

I love that instead of evacuating, you guys get closer to the danger. Talk about living on the edge in Draper Utah.

Tell Brad and J-Dog that you have to be able to do several push-ups in a row to be a fire fighter.

I am sure the boys were in heaven but sounds scary to me! Hope you guys are settling into the school year. It was so fun to see you when we were in Utah!
